Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to our most frequently asked questions:

Is coaching really a necessary ingredient for a student to achieve a good SAT, ACT score?
Ask any student who has been coached that you know personally …ask any SCOREBUILDERS’ client. See our Testimonials.
SCOREBUILDERS sounds wonderful…is there a catch…is it expensive?
SCOREBUILDERS charges less than the “brand name courses” charge for one-on-one; with SCOREBUILDERS you get the very best, never the “B-Team”!
Should the student concentrate on preparing for only the SATs? Isn’t the SAT a more desirable test to score well on than the ACT? Should the student take both the SATs and the ACTs?
Most colleges and universities consider the scores from both; you should check with the schools you are interested in attending. Given that your choices will accept either, you would be wise to explore taking both the SATs and the ACTs.
Do students have to prepare for the ACTs, considering “it’s easy”?
Students who are prepared by SCOREBUILDERS for the ACT are comfortable taking the test. SCOREBUILDERS will review all four subject matter areas and focus on the knowledge requirements, strategy, technique and timing. Overconfident students who do not prepare usually underperform their capabilities and dismiss their scores thereby eliminating this alternative to their SATs…but of course if one is a genius one need not prepare for the ACTs…or for the SATs either!
Do you guarantee your students’ scores will improve by 100 points as some brand name courses do?
No one can honestly predict an individual’s score…especially prior to meeting that individual. One should question whether those guarantees are real and meaningful and whether their giveback; e.g., retaking their course, accomplishes anything. SCOREBUILDERS promises that your student’s efforts will result in the very best preparation possible and that given an individual’s talents, passion and actual effort, the result will be success. SCOREBUILDERS has achieved numerous increases in excess of 400 points. That said, some will achieve less than one hundred point increases due to various factors—ability, desire, effort, focus, degree of confidence, willingness to convert advice to action consistently, test taking mood or health, student reaction to certain material in particular tests.
How does one measure success in achieving an SAT or ACT score?
Success is not absolute but rather relative to each individual. When one achieves the highest score possible for that individual…that is success! Talented individuals who achieve scores higher than those less talented, are not necessarily successful… did they achieve their very best?
